Man killed in Citrus Heights police standoff identified

A man who was shot and killed by Citrus Heights police Thursday after a standoff with officers was identified Saturday as Jaime Ide, 35.

Ide died at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Birdcage Street in Citrus Heights after police said he threatened officers with a knife in a narrow corridor. Police said an officer, fearing for his safety, shot Ide around 10 p.m. that night.

The shooting happened hours after police were called to the scene and found a woman who was bloodied and seriously injured. Officers attempted to speak with Ide, who they suspected had injured the woman, but he barricaded himself in his home. Police said they spent hours trying to peacefully resolve the matter. Then they heard what they believed to be gunshots from inside the apartment.

Suddenly, police said, Ide left the apartment and threatened an officer with a knife while both were standing in a narrow corridor. The officer fatally shot Ide.

The unidentified woman, who was taken to a hospital for treatment, is expected to “be fine,” said Citrus Heights Police Lt. Dave Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said he could offer no additional information about Ide’s background, what might have provoked his attack on the woman, or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“We’re still in the beginning stages of a long investigation,” he said.
