Man dies after being stabbed north of downtown Sacramento

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of an unidentified man who was stabbed near Ahern and A streets in Sacramento on Saturday morning.

Around 8 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to calls that a man had been stabbed. They located the victim, who was conscious and alert. But after being transported to a local hospital, the man died from his injuries despite efforts to save him, police said.

No arrests have been made at this time and no motive has been established, according to a Police Department press release. Detectives believe there may have been witnesses to the crime, according to the release.

The location is in a mostly industrial section north of downtown near Quinn Cottages, a group of small homes that serve as transitional housing for homeless people. A popular gym, Pipeworks Climbing and Fitness, is about a block away.

The Sacramento Police Department is urging any witnesses with information on this homicide to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
