West Sacramento police say investigators have determined that a suspicious package found in a residential neighborhood Monday evening was not an explosive device.
Police spokesman Sgt. Roger Kinney said officers received a report about 6 p.m. of a suspicious package in the 300 block of Alameda Street.
Based on what they learned from the caller, he said, police set up a perimeter. Some people were evacuated from nearby homes, but most residents in the area opted to shelter in place, Kinney said.
He declined to provide details on what was said that caused officers to believe the package might pose a threat.
