Q: Was a suspect ever found or convicted for the shooting murder of a man at the old Wells Fargo ATM near Howe and Fair Oaks, probably in the early ’90s?
Eric, Rancho Cordova
A: Rob Pahlman, 25, was shot and killed Oct. 19, 1994, while driving out of the Wells Fargo parking lot at University and Howe avenues after withdrawing money from an ATM.
No arrests have been reported in the slaying.
Sacramento police investigators said at the time that they had no solid leads, but they believed Pahlman was killed in a botched robbery. After the shooting, Pahlman, wounded with a single gunshot to the chest, sped out of the bank parking lot and rammed three cars outside Bleachers Sports Bar, according to accounts in The Sacramento Bee. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where he died.
Although Pahlman still had the $40 he withdrew from the ATM, police said they believed robbery was the motive for the shooting and the assailants failed to in their attempt to get his cash.
Pahlman was employed at a shoe store in Arden Fair Mall and was about to take a supervisorial job at another store at the time of his death.
