Davis police are advising residents to be cautious after a card-skimming device was found on an automated teller machine at a downtown bank.
Police responded Monday to a report of a card-skimming device on the ATM at River City Bank, according to a Police Department news release.
A card skimmer is a small device that fits over the card reader, police said. It is often coupled with a camera or keypad device that records the customer’s personal identification number, or PIN.
Police advise people using ATMs to be aware of their surroundings, to protect their PIN, and to be suspicious of any loose, crooked or damaged machines. Anyone who notices anything suspicious should immediately report it by calling 530-747-5400.
