A rock climber was airlifted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter Friday afternoon at Snowshed Wall, a rock face near Donner Summit, after falling and sustaining major injuries, the CHP reports.
The 33-year-old Truckee woman had been leading a group of climbers up Nova Express on the Snowshed Wall when she fell, according to a CHP news release. At 2:45 p.m. Friday, CalFire dispatch in Grass Valley requested the helicopter for a rescue. The helicopter departed from the Auburn Airport to assist the Truckee Fire Department and CalFire personnel.
The woman, whose name was not released, was hoisted and taken to the parking lot of Sugar Bowl ski resort before a CalStar helicopter transported her to Renown Medical Center in Reno for treatment.
