Man dies after CHP finds him unconscious in pickup in Sacramento
A man died early Sunday after he was found unconscious in his pickup truck, sitting in a northbound lane on Highway 99 in Sacramento, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
At 12:38 a.m. Sunday, a Caltrans worker called CHP dispatch to report that a white Chevrolet pickup was sitting on the freeway near the 47th Avenue onramp. Five minutes after that call, the police report stated, a big rig going about 55 mph rear-ended the parked pickup.
The CHP responders found the Chevrolet’s driver unconscious, with a pulse and still breathing, but his pulse later stopped. CHP officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District unit arrived to provide medical assistance.
The man was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. The report stated that there were no other injuries.
Sacramento County coroner’s officials will determine the motorist’s identity and cause of death. Anyone with information can contact the CHP at 916-681-2300.
