Man found unconscious in pickup truck on freeway was from Dixon

A man who died after he was found unconscious in a pickup truck on northbound Highway 99 early Sunday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office Thomas Lee Reeves, 49, of Dixon.

A California Department of Transportation employee called the California Highway Patrol dispatch center at 12:38 a.m. after seeing a white Chevrolet pickup stopped in the No. 3 lane on northbound Highway 99 near the 47th Avenue onramp. Five minutes after that call, the CHP reported, a big rig traveling about 55 mph in the same northbound lane rear-ended the stopped pickup.

CHP officers arrived and found a man unconscious in the driver’s seat of the pickup. The man initially had a pulse and was breathing, but soon afterward CHP officers were unable to locate a pulse, according to a CHP news release. The officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until a Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District unit arrived to provide medical assistance.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1 a.m.

The cause of death has not been determined, and the incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP South Sacramento Area office at 916-681-2300, or the CHP Communications Center at 916-861-1300.
