The foul-smelling package that caused a brief evacuation of the Franchise Tax Board mailroom on Monday has officially been identified as dog poop.
An employee was alerted around 9:50 a.m. Monday by a strong odor wafting from a package sent to the tax board central offices on Butterfield Way, according to an FTB spokesman. Work site security arrived to try to identify the package contents and employees reported eye burning.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District hazardous material personnel arrived and about 100 state employees in the mail receiving area were moved outside into the fresh air. Ultimately, it was determined that the package was not hazardous.
The contents were confirmed to be dog feces, a not-so-subtle message from the person who mailed the package, according to Metro Fire.
