Georgetown man arrested after Placerville police led on chase of stolen vehicle
After leading Placerville police on a pursuit early Thursday morning, Eric Harper was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, failure to yield to officers and resisting arrest.
Placerville police officers were dispatched to a report of a stolen truck in Placerville, according to a release form the Placerville Police Department. Officers located the truck on Point View Drive, but it immediately drove west on Highway 50, which initiated the pursuit.
According to the release, officers deployed a spike strip on Highway 50 at Bedford, which caught the right rear tire of the stolen vehicle and slowed it down.
Harper yielded on Highway 193 between Rock Creek Road and Texas Canyon Road, according to the release.
Harper refused officer commands and told officers he was armed with a gun, police said.. El Doardo County Deputies and SWAT team responded to the scene, according to the release.
Harper surrendered to officers without any incident after continued negotiations, according to the release.
According to the release, Harper was arrested on counts of theft of a vehicle, failure to yield to officers, post release community supervision, and resisting arrest. He is being held at El Dorado County Jail without bail.
