Orangevale man convicted of 2013 kidnapping and rape

A Sacramento jury convicted Joseph Lee Bonderer of sexual assault and kidnapping charges Thursday, according to the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office.

Bonderer faces a maximum potential sentence of 107 years to life in prison, according to a news release from the office. His sentencing is scheduled for July 8.

The incident occurred in October 2013, when Bonderer forced his way into a woman’s car as she was about to leave the Walmart on Greenback Lane.

He pointed something in the victim’s direction from under his shirt and demanded that she do what he said or he would kill her. He then forced the victim to drive to a dark field in Placer County, where she was assaulted.

Workers at a bar across the street from the Walmart store said that Bonderer was in the bar shortly before the incident. A Walmart surveillance showed Bonderer wandering the parking lot, where he followed at least two other women before choosing the victim, according to the release.
