Pedestrian dies in West Sacramento accident

A driver Friday night struck a jaywalking pedestrian in West Sacramento, leading to the man’s death, police said.

West Sacramento Police Department spokesman Roger Kinney said that the collision happened at about 11 p.m. Friday. A 47-year-old man was jaywalking near the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and West Capitol Avenue when the driver hit him, Kinney said.

After the accident, the driver immediately stopped and cooperated with an officer who was nearby and observed the accident. Kinney said the driver was not at fault since the pedestrian was jaywalking and that there was no alcohol or foul play involved with the incident.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The names of the driver and the pedestrian were not released. The investigation is still ongoing, Kinney said.
