Crime Q&A: What happened to suspect in June 2015 slaying of two men near Roseville?
Q: What has happened regarding alleged murderer Joshua Smith in the Placer County case of Jason Benson and Warren Galsote?
Concerned Relative, Sacramento
A: Joshua Daniel Smith, 39, is being held without bail in Placer County Jail, accused of murder in the June 2015 slayings of Jason John Benson, 33, and Warren Alexander Galsote, 34.
His next court date is July 21, according to jail inmate information available online.
Benson and Galsote were found shot in the head June 25, 2015 on rural Annebelle Avenue, outside Roseville. Both also had been set on fire. They died two days later.
Smith was arrested March 17 and transported to Placer County from the Sacramento County Jail, where he had been held on other charges since July, authorities said.
Prosecutors allege that Smith has gang ties and that he lay in wait for Benson and Galsote before firing the shots and setting the men on fire. They allege that Smith targeted Galsote because he witnessed a crime, according to a story in The Sacramento Bee.
