A fire at an abandoned house in midtown Sacramento was knocked down by the Sacramento Fire Department early Tuesday morning after spreading to the attic of a second home.

No injuries

Dispatchers received a call of a fire on the 1500 block of S Street at 3:23 a.m. The blaze took about two hours to control, said fire department spokesman Chris Harvey.

The fire caused 15th, 16th and S streets to close temporarily as firefighters battled the flames.

There are three homes on the 1500 block of S Street that have been abandoned for several years. Harvey said the department had been keeping a close eye on those homes for possible fires because homeless people sometimes wander into them and use candles or cooking stoves.

No one was injured in the fire, Harvey said. The extent and estimated cost of the damage to both buildings was not available.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, according to the fire department.
