A man hit and killed by a train in Elk Grove on Tuesday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner listed his name as Robert E. Schulte, 79, of Elk Grove.
Schulte was reportedly pushing his bicycle along railroad tracks when he was struck by a Union Pacific freight train.
The collision occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 8900 block of Elk Grove-Florin Road, between Sheldon and Bond roads.
Police said that the train crew sounded a horn in an attempt to warn Schulte away from the tracks, but he did not respond and was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
