Pedestrian killed near Gibson Ranch was 65-year-old Elverta woman

A 65-year-old woman has been identified as the hit-and-run victim who was found in a ditch Saturday morning in the Elverta area near Gibson Ranch, California Highway Patrol spokesman Chad Hertzell said.

Donna Zurfluh of Elverta was walking east on the south side of Elverta Road between 2 and 6 a.m. Saturday, a CHP news release stated. The unidentified driver’s vehicle was also headed east when it hit Zurfluh. The speed of the vehicle and the cause of the collision were not immediately determined.

Hertzell says officers received a call from a passer-by about 6:30 a.m., though they believe the incident could have occurred several hours earlier. There are no sidewalks in that area, Hertzell said.

The driver left the scene, and CHP investigators are asking the public for help. Anyone with information can contact Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357 or 800-222-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
