Man wounded in Alta gunfight arrested
One of two men shot Tuesday in Alta has been arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, according to Placer County sheriff's officials.
Raymond William Campbell, 52, went to property belonging to a 35-year-old man on Silvertip Spur about 10 a.m.
During a dispute over money, Campbell allegedly fired shotgun rounds at the other man, who was standing in his front door, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The man was struck by gunshots but was able to fire back at Campbell with his own rifle, sheriff’s officials said.
Both men were wounded, but Campbell was able to leave on his motorcycle. The Sheriff’s Office broadcast Campbell’s description, and California Highway Patrol officers pulled him over on eastbound Interstate 80 at Eagle Lake Road.
He was flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment.
Campbell and the other man, whose name has not been released, were released from the hospital by late Tuesday, sheriff’s officials said.
Campbell is being held without bail in Placer County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, shooting at an inhabited structure, carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm.
