A Cameron Park man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly started a fire at an apartment complex where he lives.
El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies received a report about 10:30 p.m. of an argument and possible arson at the Sierra Oaks Apartments on La Crescenta Drive.
When they arrived, deputies contacted several residents who reported seeing a man who lived in the complex start a fire near one of the air conditioning units. One person ran down with a fire extinguisher, put out the fire and got into an argument with the man accused of starting the fire.
Deputies checked the area near the air conditioner and saw obvious signs of a recent fire, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Based on the description provided by witnesses, the deputies recognized the suspect as Michael Douglas Davis, 54, who lives in the complex.

Deputies contacted Davis and questioned him about the incident along with Cal Fire law enforcement officers, who came to the scene to assist with the arson investigation.
Based on the investigation, Davis was arrested on suspicion of arson of an inhabited structure, felony possession of arson material and violation of probation.
Sheriff’s officials said Davis was booked into El Dorado County Jail without incident.
