Lodi teen killed in Highway 99 crash identified by coroner

The Sacramento County Coroner’s office has identified the Lodi teenager who died when she lost control of a car on a Highway 99 exit ramp in south Sacramento and hit a tree.

The coroner’s website listed the teen killed in the crash was 18-year-old Renee Schimke.

Three other San Joaquin County 18-year-olds were in the car and injured. They suffered cuts, and one told officers she was experiencing neck pain.

The accident took place about 10:20 p.m. Friday, when Schimke turned into the West Stockton Boulevard off-ramp at a high rate of speed, according to the California Highway Patrol.

She tried to slow down by hitting the brakes at a curve in the ramp, but the 1998 BMW slid out of its lane and across a Highway 99 entrance ramp. The car's driver-side door struck a tree on the on-ramp's left shoulder.
