The inmate found dead in his cell at Sacramento County Main Jail over the weekend has been identified as Barry Lee Monroe, 41, of Sacramento.
The county Sheriff’s Department said Monroe had been in jail since July 22, booked on suspicion of drug charges, destroying evidence and violation of probation.
During a check on inmates shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, jail deputies found Monroe unresponsive. Jail medical personnel tried to revive Monroe, and medical personnel from outside the jail also arrived to help.
But Monroe was pronounced dead. No signs of trauma were seen and foul play is not suspected, according to a sheriff’s press release.
