An accident on Lake Tahoe in which a person was seriously injured after becoming caught in boat propellers is being investigated by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Unit, along with several other agencies, responded to a report of a boating injury on the lake about 12:35 p.m. Sunday. A boat with twin propellers had been pulling a person in an inner tube, and upon re-entering the boat, the tuber’s legs became caught in the propellers, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Conflicting information about the location of the boat significantly delayed the response by emergency personnel, sheriff’s officials said. After about 40 minutes, deputies arrived and jumped into the water to free the unconscious tuber from the propellers. Other agencies from around the lake responded to assist.
The tuber was transported by South Lake Tahoe police to a waiting air ambulance and flown to a Reno hospital. Sheriff’s officials said the victim was reported in serious condition.
