Boy abducted in south Sacramento found safe; father in custody

The 4-year-old child allegedly abducted by his father Tuesday evening was safely recovered Wednesday morning and his father is in custody.

Adrian Brown Sr., 29, who has no custody or visitation rights to his son, Adrian Brown Jr., allegedly abducted the child from a family member of the boy’s mother at a residence on the 7000 block of Dolphinfish Way in south Sacramento at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Lisa Bowman said Brown Sr. was compliant with the sheriff’s deputies and will be booked into the main jail on Wednesday.

Brown Sr. took the child using physical force and placed him in a blue 2005 Dodge Stratus with paper license plates before erratically driving away, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

He said he was taking his son and leaving the state. The Sheriff’s Department had considered the boy to be in danger because of his father’s aggressive actions, unsafe driving and because there was no child seat inside the vehicle.

“Obviously his behavior when he came to take the child was volatile,” Bowman said. Combined with his comments about taking the child and leaving, this causes concern, she said.

The 4-year-old takes an essential daily medication and Bowman said Brown Sr. did not take the medication when he took the child.
