PG&E crews cap ruptured Curtis Park gas line

A ruptured natural gas line that prompted evacuation of homes in the Curtis Park neighborhood Friday morning has been capped.

The Sacramento Fire Department reported about 11:15 a.m. that excavating by a private contractor had caused the 2-inch line to rupture at Second Avenue and San Fernando Way.

About 20 residents in the neighborhood were evacuated, fire officials said.

Pacific Gas & Electric crews capped the broken line. Fire Department crews cleared the scene about 1 p.m., but PG&E workers remained at the site to complete repairs, fire officials said.

Second Avenue remained closed to traffic.
