Q: What happened approximately 20 years ago to a young woman who went for a walk on the American River bike trail? I believe she was from the Rancho Corodva area and she went for this walk over the Christmas holiday season. Was she ever found?
A: You may be thinking of the case of a Gold River woman who was jogging along the American River Parkway bike trail in December 1997 when she was accosted by a man with a knife.
The incident occurred near the El Manto Drive access to the bike trail. According to a story in The Sacramento Bee, a man, who was believed to be homeless, grabbed the woman and held a kitchen knife to her throat as he dragged her off the trail toward a secluded area.
