Q: What happened to Rickie Che, the 2003 shooter of Roberto Treadway?
A: Rickie Che, the man authorities say pulled the trigger in the execution-style slaying of 15-year-old Roberto Treadway, remains at large.
Two of Che’s companions, Bobby Chiu and Tony Cong Hoong, who were 16 at that time of the Sept. 30, 2003 shooting, were convicted by s Sacramento County jury of being gang members and Che’s accomplices. Although neither was accused of pulling the trigger, Chiu and Hoong were judged equally responsible for the shooting.

The two men were sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. Hoong, 29, is at Folsom State Prison, and Chiu, also 29, is at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano.
According to stories in The Sacramento Bee, Treadway was stabbed and shot to death outside of McClatchy High after Chiu started a fight with a girl near the corner of Fifth Avenue and Freeport Boulevard. . Treadway was shot once in the head after he came to the girl’s aid.
Neither Chiu nor Hoong was a McClatchy student, and Treadway had been suspended from the school at the time.
