Woman dies in custody at Yolo County Jail

A 53-year-old woman died Monday night about two hours after she was booked into the Yolo County Jail.

Leslie Beacham, described as a transient in the Yolo County area, was booked into the jail at 9:30 p.m. on an outstanding warrant, according to a Yolo County Sheriff’s Office news release.

About 11 p.m., members of the correctional staff found Beacham in a bathroom suffering from an apparent medical emergency, sheriff’s officials said. Emergency personnel responded to the jail, but efforts to resuscitate Beacham were unsuccessful and she was declared dead.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, but the cause of death is undetermined pending toxicology results, sheriff’s officials said.
