The name of a 17-year-girl who died Saturday after the car she was driving spun across Highway 49 and was struck by an oncoming vehicle has been released by the Nevada County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
She was identified as Emily Brightwood. Her hometown was not available.
The teen was the sole occupant of a Subaru wagon southbound near Lime Kiln Road when for unknown reasons she spun into the northbound lane, where a car broadsided her vehicle at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Brightwood was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people in the other car suffered moderate injuries, according to the CHP.
The colllison is under investigation.
