Inmate in El Dorado jail on murder charge dies
A man in custody in El Dorado County Jail since November on suspicion of murder has died.
Correctional officers found Dennis Renk, 39, unresponsive in his cell at 12:24 a.m. Saturday. El Dorado County fire paramedics took him to a Placerville hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m. Saturday.
The cause of death was under investigation.
Renk was jailed last year after a fight with Camino resident Langley Pratt, 56. Pratt died Nov. 6.
Deputies went to a residence in the 2800 block of Elmer Street regarding an assault and found Pratt unconscious in the driveway.
Investigators learned that Pratt and Renk had been involved in a fight, according to an El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies found Renk at the residence and arrested him on suspicion of murder.
