Two-alarm Sacramento house fire kills dogs

Two homes burned and two dogs died in an early morning fire in the Hagginwood neighborhood of Sacramento.

Firefighters rushed to the fire in the 3600 block of Kern Street, near Grand Avenue and Marysville Boulevard, around 4 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, crews found flames erupting from one home and another house catching fire.

A second alarm was called, eventually summoning a total of 40 firefighters to the scene. A third structure at the rear of one of the homes was also threatened but firefighters were successful in stopping the spread of fire to that building.

While residents were able to get out of the burning houses, two dogs perished, according to Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Roberto Padilla.
