Worker at Meadowview middle school tests positive for coronavirus, Sac City Unified says
An employee at a middle school in Meadowview tested positive for coronavirus, according to district officials.
In a statement, the Sacramento City Unified School District said that the employee worked at John Still Middle School, located near Interstate 5 and Cosumnes River Boulevard.
The school district learned that the employee — whose identity is not being released due to health privacy regulations — tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, and Sacramento County health officials confirmed the results on Friday.
District officials conducted a contact tracing campaign in order to reach out to any possible contacts the employee may have made while infectious, and spoke with the employee privately. The employee is believed to have never came into contact with members of the public as part of their job, SCUSD officials said in a Saturday morning news release.
“Sac City Unified is working closely with Sacramento County Public Health and will continue to update our community, school site staff, and labor partners on any new developments,” the district said in its statement. “Sac City Unified has provided employees reporting to work with masks and cloth face coverings, and appropriate PPE. Employees are required to practice social distancing of at least 6 feet and adhere to other safety guidelines. Our staff continue to disinfect high-touch areas at all district sites on a daily basis.”
Although students have been attending class virtually from home, some staff still remain on campuses in the district. Additionally, students are still visiting campuses, as meal services are continuing through the summer at some school sites, including John Still Middle School.
