Sacramento, Elk Grove school districts say workers have tested positive for COVID-19

More employees at local school districts have tested positive for coronavirus, according to officials.

Sacramento City Unified confirmed two different employee infections across the district. At Woodbine Elementary School, north of Meadowview, an employee who worked during a materials distribution event in preparation for upcoming school year of distance learning tested positive for the virus recently.

District leadership warned parents who attended the Wednesday event during the morning hours that they or their children may have come into contact with the employee. The event was held outdoors, socially distanced and required masks, but the district said it will be disinfecting all facilities and equipment that may have been exposed to the coronavirus.

The district also said that an employee at Bret Harte Elementary School in Curtis Park tested positive for the virus.

“Sac City Unified worked with the individual and identified staff members and determined that there was no close contact between individuals,” district spokeswoman Tara Gallegos said in an email to The Sacramento Bee. “At this time, we have no evidence to indicate that the employee came into contact with any members of the public as part of their job duties.”

Meanwhile, an Elk Grove Unified School District employee who was present at a seventh-grade distribution event tested positive earlier this month.

In an official update sent to parents, Elizabeth Pinkerton Middle School administrators said the worker was at a textbook and supply handout event Aug. 6. This distribution event, like the Woodbine event, had precautionary measures in place to limit the possibility of viral transmission, but school officials said some may have been exposed to COVID-19. The school will be cleaning facilities and equipment that may have been used by the employee.
