Threatening anti-LGBTQ graffiti found in Sacramento high school restroom under investigation
An anti-LGBTQ slur scrawled on the walls of a bathroom at a Sacramento high school and shared on social media is under investigation by the Elk Grove Unified School District.
District officials told The Sacramento Bee that the graffiti was “immediately removed” Thursday by custodial staff at Sheldon High School and was reported to school administrators.
Officials learned Friday that a photo of the slur — which was threatening and discriminatory — was also shared among some students “electronically,” said district spokeswoman Xanthi Soriano.
“The district and the school are thankful to those who reported the threat promptly,” Soriano said. “Our district and schools adhere to a policy of non-discrimination and, per our policy, any student who feels that he or she or another student in the district is being unlawfully discriminated against, harassed, intimidated or bullied ... should immediately notify school staff or an administrator such as the principal or a vice principal so that the concern can be investigated and addressed.”
District officials say a suspect in the incident has not been identified but “appropriate action will be taken.”
