One-time stipend up to $7.5K is available to Sacramento child care workers. How to apply
The city of Sacramento is providing professional child care workers with a one-time $5,000 to $7,500 stipend to help with the economic challenges from the COVID pandemic.
Applications for the stipend opened on Nov. 10 and will be available through Dec. 9 on a first-come, first-served basis.
During the pandemic, many child care workers had to shut their doors. As more parents return back to work, there still remains a disparity in the number of child care providers available to parents.
There has been a total of 88,400 child care jobs lost nationally since February 2020, according to the Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement at U.C. Berkley. Though child care jobs remain below pre-pandemic numbers, there has been a slight increase.
Sacramento child care stipend requirements:
To apply for the one-time child care stipend, you need to be operating child care services within city limits. The one-time stipend of $5,000 is for family child care homes and the $7,500 is for childcare centers, according to the application.

Additional requirements, according to local non-profit Child Action Inc., include:
- You were a licensed child care worker before the COVID-19 pandemic started on March 13, 2020.
- Must be an active and in good standing with Community Care Licensing.
- Your child care service must be privately owned or operating as a non-profit.
- Your family child care home or child care center was impacted by COVID-19 pandemic.
- You provide child care services for the city of Sacramento for children ages 0 to 5 years of age.
