Elk Grove offering cash for college in city scholarship program. Here’s how to apply

Elk Grove news

Elk Grove high school students who have excelled in the classroom and the community can apply for college scholarships from the city’s youth commission.

Applications for the cash awards offered by the Elk Grove Youth Commission are open to high school students in grades 9-12 who live in or go to school in Elk Grove. Deadline is May 1.

“The commission wanted to use this year to recognize exceptional students who not only have excelled in their academics, but who also give back to their community, as well as recognize students who have done something impressive during the school year,” commissioners said in a statement announcing the awards.

During the application review process, the committee will not be able to view applicants’ names, email, and other identifiers, only application answers and the entrant’s grade level.

A $500 merit-based scholarship will be awarded to a student in grades 9-12 who has demonstrated great strength in academics and extracurricular activities.

A $500 award for outstanding achievement will go to the high school student who showed “resilience through improving themselves or their community.”

The youth commission will select two high school seniors who demonstrated excellence in school and the community in the $1,000 Exceptional Youth category.
