Sacramento high school students protest Trump administration with a walkout. See photos

About 300 students at Hiram Johnson High School walked out of class to protest the Trump administration on Tuesday.

The protest mirrored one held by their fellow Sacramento City Unified School District students at McClatchy High earlier this month.

The students rallied on the campus at around noon, after the end of their fourth-period class. They marched from the campus on 14th Avenue to Sacramento State, a distance of about 1.5 miles.

“It’s important for me to march because my parents went through all this struggle to give us a good future, and the fact that Donald Trump wants to take that away from us — I find that idiotic,” said Leydi Ayala, a junior.

High school staffers followed the students in vehicles, instructing them to stay off the busy street.

I like that they’re speaking the truth. I love that they’re fighting for something they believe in and I think when we see people like them we promote peace,” she said.
