Jessup University names Meghan Barnard as the college’s first female president
Jessup University has named Meghan Barnard its seventh president, making her the first woman to lead the private university in its history.
The Rocklin-based university announced Monday that Barnard will assume the role July 1 following a national search that began in March.
Barnard succeeds interim President Parnell M. Lovelace Jr. and comes to Jessup after serving as provost and senior vice president at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.
Rachael Gelsinger, chair of the university’s presidential search committee and a member of the board of trustees, said she is confident Barnard’s leadership will bring stability and vision to the university.
“Dr. Barnard is a thoughtful and accomplished leader whose experience and character position her well for this moment,” she said.
Jessup Board of Trustees Chair Bonnie Gore said Barnard’s experience developing new approaches in higher education made her a strong fit for the university as it prepares for future growth.
Barnard brings more than two decades of experience in higher education leadership.
At Southeastern University, she oversaw academic initiatives including the introduction of new degree programs, the expansion of experiential learning opportunities and the revision of academic pathways designed to improve student outcomes.

It is an honor to ensure every student has the opportunity, resources and encouragement to succeed, both in the classroom and beyond.”
Barnard earned a bachelor’s degree from Rollins College, an MBA from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a doctorate in texts and technology from the University of Central Florida.
According to the university, she has served on numerous academic committees, received research grants and scholarships and presented at conferences focused on higher education and academic leadership.
Lovelace praised Barnard’s selection, saying she brings “vision, opportunity, and insight” to the university community.
