Stephen Wehr has been named the new superintendent of the El Dorado Union High School District.
Wehr, the district’s assistant superintendent of human resources, takes the place of Chris Hoffman, who is leaving this month to run the Elk Grove Unified School District.
Wehr worked at Center High School for 21 years, first as a social studies teacher, then as athletic director, dean of student services, vice principal and finally as principal. He left the school in 2004 to become principal of Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills. He was promoted to assistant superintendent of human resources for the high school district last year.
On Oct. 28 the school board offered Wehr a three-year contract for $200,000 a year. He begins his new duties Nov. 15.

“I have always believed in creating a learning environment that supports students in becoming college and career ready upon graduation,” Wehr said in a statement. “As superintendent, I will continue the good work we have begun, as I am committed to improving the academic performance of all of our students.”
