The San Juan Unified School District is inviting community leaders to volunteer to become “Principal for a Day,” an annual event that affords an inside look at education in the school district.

The deadline to register is Friday, and the event is set for Oct. 21. Participants are asked to be available generally from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., depending on the school site.

Volunteers take over the role of principal for the morning by interacting with students and teachers. A host principal will guide the volunteer at each campus to classroom visits to observe instruction and efforts to improve teaching and learning.

Being principal for a day may include supervising lunch or recess, reading to students and participating in parent or staff meetings. The morning concludes with a luncheon for volunteers.
