Search begins for new Sacramento City College president
Kathryn E. Jeffery, president of Sacramento City College for the last eight years, has vacated the post to become superintendent and president of Santa Monica College.
Michael Poindexter, vice president of student services for Sacramento City College, was installed Wednesday as interim president, a post he is expected to hold until June 30, according to Los Rios Community College District spokesman Mitchel Benson.
Jeffery was selected for the Santa Monica position in November, although the 34,000-student college announced at the time that Jeffery’s spring 2016 start date had not been determined. Jeffery will begin her new job Monday, a Santa Monica College spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Benson said Los Rios has begun a national search for Jeffery’s replacement. On Friday, the district listed the job on an education website and identified an annual salary range of $189,021 to $204,602, an annual doctoral stipend of $3,321, if eligible, and an annual travel stipend of $6,600.
Jeffery’s annual salary was $207,923.43, plus a $550-a-month travel/mileage allowance. Poindexter will receive an annualized salary of $189,021, plus $550 a month for travel.
Benson said the district has no names of job candidates to share. Under district policy, he said Poindexter, by serving as the interim president, is precluded from applying for the permanent position.
Jeffery was Sacramento City College’s 14th president and the first woman to lead the college. She served as a counselor and instructor at the campus from 1983 to 1990 before advancing to other jobs.
She served as president of Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota, provost/chief campus administrator at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas and vice president of Columbia College in the Yosemite Community College District, according to her biography on the Los Rios website.
Her last day at the Sacramento college was Tuesday.
