It was not Los Angeles or San Francisco or San Diego either. The publication found it was Marin County, coming in at 24th.

Placer County moved up 43 places to be ranked 37th in the country. It was the only community from the Sacramento region to make the top 100 (El Dorado County was 333rd). San Mateo County was 39th and Santa Clara came in at 45th. San Luis Obispo came in at 251st, hindered in the categories of equity and housing.

The U.S. News & World Report’s list is compiled using federal data from the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics. Researchers rate communities on 81 measures of health, including life expectancy, high school graduation rates and affordable housing.

The state of Iowa had the most counties on the list: 62. However, most states had fewer than 10 counties on the list, if any at all.
