Golden 1 Center has postponed four concerts that were set for later this spring, the first musical events at the arena to be rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping through California.

The venue Thursday announced that the V101 Heart of Hip-Hop event, scheduled for March 28, will be rescheduled to Aug. 8 “in accordance with the California Department of Public Health’s updated policy to limit large gatherings to protect public health and slow the spread of COVID-19.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom late Wednesday urged the entire state to cancel or postpone all events or gatherings with more than 250 people.

The Golden 1 Center website’s calendar of events also shows that a concert featuring 16-year-old singer JoJo Siwa, originally set for March 25, has been rescheduled for June 14.

And the show starring legendary singer Cher, originally set for May 6, will be held Oct. 14.

Late Thursday the arena said Celine Dion’s April 7 concert was postponed indefinitely.

V101 Heart of Hip-Hop had an announced lineup that featuring rap artists E40, Xzibit, J.J. Fad and others. Currently held tickets will be honored for the new date, and no action is needed. Refunds can be received at the point of purchase.

The two postponements represent the first schedule changes involving musical performances at the venue, which seats more than 17,000.

The V101 event cancellation came minutes after the NCAA officially canceled its men’s and women’s basketball Division I tournaments, March Madness, and hours after Thursday morning’s announcement that the high school basketball state title games this Friday and Saturday have been canceled. Golden 1 Center had been the host site for the high school games and for some first- and second-round games of the college men’s tournament on March 20 and March 22.

A day earlier on Wednesday, the NBA season was suspended indefinitely. The Kings’ home game against the Pelicans was postponed moments before tip-off at Golden 1.

Events still showing on the Golden 1 Center calendar, for now, include a pair of moderated conversations with Michelle Obama on April 1 and a leg of Grammy Award-winning star Billie Eilish’s “Where Do We Go?” tour on April 8.

Tickets to Heart of Hip-Hop will be honored at the future date or can be refunded, the venue said in its statement.
