Sacramento County juvenile hall reports first confirmed coronavirus case, officials say
The Sacramento County Probation Department on Tuesday reported its first positive coronavirus case at its juvenile hall, in a minor recently booked there.
The department tweeted Tuesday morning that it received confirmation Monday of the positive test, for a juvenile booked “a few days earlier” into the county’s youth detention facility.
“The youth has been isolated and is receiving care,” the tweet said.
It’s the first case reported at Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, which was holding 90 juveniles as of Aug. 1, the most recent reporting period by the California Board of State and Community Corrections, according to that board’s COVID-19 dashboard. The infection is being reported to the board, the county says, but doesn’t yet appear on that dashboard.
Among its general population, Sacramento County as of Monday reported 959 of its 12,040 lab-confirmed coronavirus cases, or about 8%, in children under age 18.
