Elk Grove university campus will offer a master’s degree in health administration
California Northstate University announced today it will offer a new master’s degree program in health administration starting in spring 2021 .
“Health care is currently 18 percent of the US GDP and growing due to our aging population and the evolving complexity in the health care environment,” said Dr. Alvin Cheung, the university’s chief executive officer and president. “The demand for highly qualified health care administrators and leaders will increase along with this trend.”
Melissa Sheldon, the graduate program director at the college, said she expects the program to be particularly attractive to midcareer professionals in the health care industry who have business administration skills.
“CNU will serve as the West Coast educational catalyst to deliver cutting-edge and proven technologies in analytics and intelligence ... that will optimize health care delivery systems,” Sheldon said in a news release. “We have hired some of the best professors in the region that bring a breadth of health care and business experience.”
Sheldon brings 20 years of experience with program management and outreach to her role as leader of the program, university officials stated in the release. Prior to joining CNU, she was executive director for executive and professional programs at Sacramento State, where she helped to expand the MBA for executives.
The MHA program at California Northstate will focus on developing ethical, responsible leaders who think like entrepreneurs when it comes to developing solutions to health care industry challenges and changes, university officials said in the release.
CNSU, a private, for-profit medical college in Elk Grove, offers degrees exclusively in health care through its colleges of graduate studies, pharmacy, medicine, psychology and health sciences.
University of the Pacific and the University of California, Davis, also have been expanding their educational programs in health care to meet the fast-growing need in health care.
