Kaiser Permanente plans new Sacramento medical facility, buys North Natomas parcel
Kaiser Permanente entered into an agreement to purchase of 37 acres in North Natomas where it plans to build an outpatient medical facility, said Trish Rodriguez, interim senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The Oakland-based company had planned to build the offices on a 12-acre parcel in the neighborhood north of Interstate 80 but decided that site was too small.
Rodriguez on Tuesday said Kaiser does not intend to build a hospital on the site because it already has plans in the works for a hospital in the Railyards project just north of downtown Sacramento. In anticipation of that project, the company opened a medical office building in downtown Sacramento in 2018.
North Natomas residents could have a growing number of places to get care if plans moving through Sacramento city government are fulfilled.
California NorthState University, the Elk Grove-based for-profit medical school, has plans to build a hospital on the land that is now home to the Sleep Train Arena, where the Sacramento Kings once played. The proposed hospital is expected to be built over eight years if it moves forward.
