Hear concerns over Sacramento’s plan for tiny homes in response to homelessness
A video captures community members on Monday voicing concerns about a proposed tiny home community in North Natomas that is part of Sacramento’s strategy to deal with homelessness.
Sacramento Councilmember Lisa Kaplan and Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes hosted the event at Witter Ranch Elementary School.
Brian Pedro, director Department of Community Response, was on hand to answer questions about the micro-community that is proposed for vacant land that the city owns near Arena Boulevard and El Centro Road.
“My question is, why would you not involve the city council members from all eight districts?” asked Natomas resident Joe Stein before the meeting. “Because it affects all eight districts. Instead, one person makes a decision. Does she have a degree in urban planning and development? Does she understand how certain things affect certain communities in different ways? No, I don’t think any of that was done.
“And the other big concern we have, because I live right there on the corner where the dog run is going to be, is that’s a flood plain.”
