A funeral Mass for Quin Denvir, former Sacramento federal public defender, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis.

Denvir died June 3 in Sacramento at the age of 76. He was known for campaigning against the death penalty and orchestrating a deal that kept Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski off death row.

Denvir was diagnosed four years ago with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable disease that results in scarring of the lungs over time. He was hospitalized last month before dying at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, according to family friends.

The family asks that donations be made to the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice Foundation or the CACJ Political Action Committee to help continue Denvir’s fight against the death penalty. Donations can be sent to either organization at 1555 River Park Drive, Suite 105, Sacramento, CA 95815, or online at www.cacj.org/Donations.aspx. For more information or questions, please contact the CACJ office at 916-643-1800.
