Scheduled road work on southbound Interstate 5 south of Elk Grove could cause 25- to 30-minute delays for drivers beginning Thursday night, the state Department of Transportation reports.
The roadwork will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and last until 5 a.m. Friday near the Sacramento-San Joaquin county line. Crews will make emergency pavement repairs on the freeway’s No. 1 and 2 lanes, Caltrans officials said in a news release.
Over the next 25 days, construction crews will continue the work, with alternating lane closures of up to two lanes. Caltrans said workers will make their way north on Interstate 5 and replace damaged concrete slabs in both directions.
Drivers are urged to find alternate routes given the expected delays. Bad weather or unexpected events could delay roadwork.
