Spring has sprung with snow on Highway 50, Interstate 80
Travelers are finding it slow-going in the Sierra Nevada on Wednesday as chain controls were put into effect on snowy Highway 50 and Interstate 80.
Chains are required at Sly Park on Highway 50 in El Dorado County. On I-80, chains are required from one mile east of Baxter in Placer County to the Donner Lake interchange in Nevada County.
A winter weather advisory remained in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday as snow levels were lowering in the mountains. Donner Pass on I-80 and Echo Summit on Highway 50 were expected to have periods of snow that could make travel difficult, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow accumulations are expected to be from three to six inches on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada.
