Stormy weather to continue through Thursday in Sierra, Sacramento area

A mix of snow and rain is falling Wednesday afternoon in the Donner Summit area, the California Highway Patrol’s Truckee Division reports. At least one rollover accident has taken place on Interstate 80 in the Truckee area, but no injuries were reported.

The stormy weather will continue in the Truckee area as a winter storm warning has been issued beginning later Wednesday afternoon and continuing through early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow/rain will be buffeted by a south wind 15 mph to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph forecast. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible Wednesday afternoon. Winds are forecast to increase to 20 mph to 25 mph Wednesday night.

Rain and snow is expected to continue to fall Thursday, with a snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible, the weather service reports.

In the Sacramento area, heavy rain is expected Wednesday night, totaling between three-quarters of an inch to an inch, the NWS forecasts. Rain is forecast to continue through 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms until 4 p.m.
