Two Southwest jets bump at Burbank airport, delaying flight to Sacramento

Passengers on a Sacramento-bound Southwest Airlines flight from Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport had to be re-routed after its wing clipped another Southwest jet while being pushed back from the gate Saturday morning.

The incident occurred as Southwest Flight 4721 and no injuries were reported, Southwest officials said.

“Both planes were taken out of service and will undergo a maintenance check,” the airline said in an email. “Our employees worked as quickly as possible to re-accommodate all customers. Safety is our number one focus and we are conducting an internal review to identify the details surrounding today’s event.”

The flight, which was scheduled to depart Burbank at 7:10 a.m. and land at 8:30 a.m., departed at 10:30 a.m. and landed in Sacramento at 11:41 a.m.
